Westword’s Mastermind PAIR (Powerhaüs Artist-in-Residence) Program

Powerhaüs Studio will provide (2) 10’ x 10’ studios for artists working in visual arts and fashion for a period of 3 months. This session will be from April 30, 2013 – July 30, 2013.

Early Applications until March 12th, 2013 at midnight MST – $25 up to 5 images, $50 up to 10 images
​Application deadline April 9th, 2013 at midnight MST – $35 up to 5 images, $75 up to 10 images

One visual artist and one fashion designer will receive:

• a completely rent-free furnished studio space with WiFi.
• mentoring from Powerhaüs Studio artists and fashion designer.
• their own live blog on the Village Voice’s publication Westword.com for the duration of the residency.
• exclusive media coverage in Westword magazine.
• introduction to  Westword’s Mastermind community – winners in literature, fashion, multimedia, performance, and visual arts through a networking cocktail partyhosted by Westword Masterminds.
• a variety of exclusive sponsor benefits.
• the opportunity to participate in First Friday open studios for the city-wide art walks as well as other studio events.
• an exhibition with other PAIR participants
• space at Westword’s signature event, Artopia, as visual artists and fashion designers.

Powerhaüs Studio is located in the heart of Five Points, a diverse downtown Denver neighborhood and one of the nation’s most creative and historic communities. Just one block from Denver’s clean and fast LightRail network.  Powerhaüs Studio is minutes from museums, galleries, performing arts venues and a variety of shopping destinations.

Artists of 21 years of age and older working in the visual arts and fashion are welcome to apply.

2013 Sessions:
​The 2013 PAIR Exhibition (scheduled in 2014) will be hosted by Hinterland Art Space, a Denver gallery which showcases cutting-edge art and fashion.

Jurors for Session 1 (April 30 – July 30):
​For this inaugural jurying for Powerhaüs Artists-in-Residence, Powerhaüs Studio are excited to announce our two distinguished jurors. Each will give a juror award in their discipline. They are the cutting-edge Executive Director of the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art David Dadone and the incomparable Mondo Guerra of Project Runway fame.

David Dadone

​David Dadone is the new cutting-edge executive director of Boulder’s Museum of Contemporary Art. Born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Dadone moved to Colorado 8 years ago and began an incredible trek to his position at the BMoCA.

Mondo Guerra
​Fashion Designer
​Denver designer Mondo Guerra first endeared himself to an international audience in 2010 on Lifetime’s Project Runway season 8. His innovative style and bold designs have captured the imagination of the fashion world, while his courageous story has inspired global support surrounding his HIV/AIDS activism. Mondo returned to television in January 2012 on the debut season of Project Runway All Stars as one of 13 Runway veterans competing to prove they still have what it takes to rock the runway. In March 2012, Mondo emerged victorious from All Stars, claiming one of the largest prize packages in Runway history–which includes an exclusive collection at Neiman Marcus available in 2013.
